10xDN RS485 Controller Install

[This note applies to all ICR Flex & Pro series DVRs]

Step 1: Before installing the camera in its location, we first have to assign a unique ID through the cameras OSD. This works just like a PTZ works in that you can not have another camera or device with the same ID attached to the same controlling device (i.e. the DVR).

Step 2: To get in to the OSD to change the cameras ID (also to change other options after installing the camera such as brightness) first hook it up to a display, power source and connect the small controller that came with it. The controller gets connected in the port in the back which is pictured below.

Step 3: With the controller plugged in and the pictured displayed, press the “SET” button to bring up the OSD. Now go down to “SPECIAL” and hit “SET” then go to “CAM. ID” and hit “SET”.  Use the directional pad on the controller to move the ID up or down (there is no need to change the baud rate). When satisfied with the ID selection, press “SET” and proceed to select “Return” until you see an “Exit” option on the menu.

Step 4: Now that you have your ID set, you can now install the unit where desired. Remember to use the controller to adjust different variables of the camera such as brightness or contrast through the OSD we were previously in (consult the manual for option descriptions). When running your lines, don’t forget to run an additional Cat5e run for your RS485 communication. The small black and red wiring along side the video line is your RS485 minus and plus.

Step 5: With the RS485 communication line ran back to the DVR (Flex or Pro) or PTZ controller, use the two wires you paired with and terminate them to RS485 terminals. On the back of the Flex series, the RS485 terminals should have an A & B listed. The A & B indicate the plus and minus for RS485 communication. On the back of the Pro series, the RS485 terminals should be listed as Rx+ and Rx-.

Step 6: Once the physical part of the installation is done, you now have to configure the PTZ controller or DVR to accept the correct camera ID, protocol and baud rate. Refer to our other walkthroughs describing how to set up everything in the Pan/Tilt/Zoom menus of the DVRs or PTZ controller.
